AUMA Actuators Limited has completed an actuator automation upgrade for Welsh Water at its Pen-y-Stryt site in Denbighshire, North Wales, designed to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.

The project involved the installation of an AUMA SAV10.2 multi-turn actuator with ACV01.2 controls, together with a bespoke timer panel designed and supplied by AUMA. The system enables automated operation of a site valve at predetermined times throughout the day, removing the need for operators to manually attend the site to open and close the valve.

Combining our SAV actuator technology with a bespoke timer panel meant we were able to provide Welsh Water with a solution tailored to the specific requirements of the site."

Prior to the upgrade, valve operation relied on personnel returning to the asset to carry out routine movements. Welsh Water has reduced operator intervention while allowing site staff to focus on other operational activities simply by introducing automated control.

AUMA engineers configured the actuator to automate valve movement and control water flow according to a scheduled programme. The bespoke timer panel provides the functionality required to initiate valve movements automatically at specified times, delivering a straightforward automation solution tailored to the site's operational requirements. The project forms part of Welsh Water's ongoing approach to improving efficiency and reliability across its asset base.

AUMA supplied one SAV10.2 actuator with ACV01.2 controls and a bespoke timer panel as part of the project. The actuator was selected for its ability to provide robust, precise and reliable automated valve control suitable for unattended operation within a demanding water utility environment.

Located near the village of Llandegla in north-east Wales, the Pen-y-Stryt site now benefits from automated valve operation that supports more efficient day-to-day asset management while maintaining reliable control of water flow.
